Jerk King's Origins

Established in 2014, Jerk King found its wings in no time, catering at St Pauls Carnival and The Ship Inn where demand was phenomenal – over 170 covers. When it comes to jerk chicken, Jerk King stands far above the competition, we say it’s Bristol’s best and so do our customers. I must thank, in no uncertain terms, my father and grandmother who taught me to cook and are my inspiration for Jerk King. My father, apart from being an Olympic weightlifter in his younger days, had Jamaican restaurants on Stokes Croft and Union St, in the late ’80s, called Quisine.

Where we are Today

We’ve gone from strength to strength, serving homemade, real deal jerk at venues & events across the country. We also fill the top spots on Google with our trio of websites: Jerk King – Jerk King Bristol™Jerk Chicken. In no uncertain terms, we are dominating the market & are more visible for our keywords than 630 competitors!
We’re now at Malcolm X Community Centre, every Friday, and we’ve a container at Bristol Rovers’ Memorial Stadium, in the Fanzone, you can wander up Gloucester Road and smell our mouth-watering Jamaican food from there. Every dish we cook is from scratch.
We also introduced a reward scheme, which was incredibly successful, buy 4 Jerk King meals and get a 5th free – over 100 free meals given!

The Technique

Jerk is a style of cooking native to Jamaica. The meat is dry-rubbed or wet marinated with a very hot spice mixture called Jamaican Jerk Spice. Seasoning principally relies upon two items: allspice (called “pimento” in Jamaica) and Scotch bonnet peppers.
The cooking technique of jerking, as well as the results it produces, has evolved over time from using pit fires to old oil barrel halves as the container of choice. Jerk is also derived from the action of jerking, which referred to poking meat with holes so that flavour could more easily be absorbed.

Our meat is marinated in our secret homemade jerk seasoning for 24 hours before cooking, for a taste sensation!

Cooked on a traditional oil drum BBQ, using smoky coals, the char-grill finish to our meat creates the succulent, mouth-watering experience which Jerk King customers keep coming back for.

Our Typical Menu

Every dish is cooked from scratch on-site and we’ve recent additions to our menu including loaded fries to the delight of our jerk-loving customers. We marinate our chickens for 24 hours before they even get near the pan.
Jerk King doesn’t cut corners, our seasonings are homemade, and we use organic ingredients (grown on our own allotment) in our cooking.
Our authentic Caribbean street food not only looks fantastic but smells and tastes fantastic!
New for 2023, loaded fries and curry goat is back on our menu to compliment our tasty, highly-rated, authentic jerk chicken, rice & peas, salad and (optional) coleslaw. There’s also a vegan option and we can do specials such as dumplings or plantain if required. With any meal, don’t forget to add a generous helping of our famous hot sauce!
